Lovebirds in a Tiff

I have a friend who is an enormously talented photographer who specialises in photographing birds.

I am most fortunate to be able to paint/sketch based on his fabulous photos with his special permission. ;)

This is the original photo taken by my friend. Please visit his website for more amazing wildlife pictures.

I was immensely attracted by the bright coloured feathers of these birds, known as the little bee-eaters, and are my first foray into painting something other than still life item. I am must say I am quite pleased with the results.

The original background was a bright blue-purple. However with Jimmy's advice, I added grey to the blue-purple background in order to 'push back' the background so that it appears further and to create the bokeh effect (which refers to the out-of-focus region).

It would have been nice if the birds were facing each other in the photo. Since they aren't, I've named this painting "Lovebirds in a Tiff". :)
